Set your own pace on this amazing surf camp. Whether you’re a complete novice, or already king of the waves, our experienced surf instructors will be on hand to guide you and improve your technique. As the days go by, you will be able to gain the skills to go surfing independently. You will spend full days on the beach and in the water, focussing on the theory and practice of surfing, each day gaining more ocean knowledge, developing your board skills and your understanding of the ocean. Our coaches will be surfing with you every step of the way.

This surf camp has unique access to 12 different surf breaks all within 30 minutes drive of the base camp; including our beach out the front of our surf camp. Every morning, like professional surfers, we check weather conditions and surf the best break to suit those conditions. This means we could be surfing a beautiful Point Break one day and an amazing Back Beach the next or 4WD up the beach to find a perfect Sand Bank*. This means your progression will develop faster and you’ll be able to enjoy surfing independently even quicker and feel at one with the waves!

*Point Break, Back Beach, and Sand Bank are surfing jargon terms. If you didn’t know this don’t worry, you’ll know the surfing lingo in no time!

You will be met upon arrival at the pre-arranged meeting point in either Sydney or Byron Bay on Monday morning at 7:15am and taken to our nearby surf camp. You may wish to fly into either Sydney or Port Macquire before making your way to the meeting point. You will arrive at our lodge around 2pm and will be out in the water surfing for the afternoon, possibly until the sun goes down. Surf all day Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning. After lunch on the Friday; around 2pm, you will depart and return back to Sydney or Byron Bay, arriving at 8pm.

This surf camp is all about taking it easy and living the beach lifestyle. You will be staying in shared dorm accommodation, although 3 star private self contained rooms are also available if you wish to upgrade. The surf camp is located on the east coast of Australia, between Sydney and Byron Bay in a coastal surfing village. Our remote location in the National Park is renowned for its world-class surf breaks, beautifully ancient land, breathtaking seascapes, and abundance of wildlife. Within our shared dormitory lodges we have a variety of extra features for your comfort and entertainment, such as; a communal social room, kitchen, lounge area, DVD corner, swimming pool, beach volley ball, table tennis, hammocks, internet, & laundry facilities.

You will be provided with three meals a day. Australia is well known for its variety and quality of awesome food. On this surf camp the food will have a strong focus on healthy, wholesome meals to satisfy your hunger after a long day of surfing. You’ll definitely never be left feeling hungry after one of our meals!

Before or after your project why not stay in country a little longer and explore a range of adventure, environmental, and cultural activities such as visits to sites like Ayers rock, diving on the Barrier Reef, canopy tours in the northern rainforests, or river rafting (and many other adrenalin sports!). Why not take take time out to get to know some of this amazing country's wildlife? The diving and snorkelling off the beautiful beaches is absolutely spectacular and you may even see pods of dolphins, seals or perhaps whales if you’re lucky.

If you fancy something more adventurous then there are plenty of adventure activities and water-based sports to get involved in. Other water sports available include water skiing, windsurfing, bodyboarding and more. Try a bungee jump for a full blown adrenaline rush, or mountain biking for a great way to take in the staggering landscapes. Venture into nearby towns with your new friends for a taste of the raucous Australian nightlife, the bars and clubs are sure to be jam packed! You can arrange in-country activities like those listed above with help from the project staff. As you can see, there are plenty of exciting opportunities and activities on offer throughout Australia, so you’ll definitely never have a dull moment.

For fast, efficient and up-to-date visa advice please contact our recommended visa consultancy partner:

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. Please check the visa information regularly, as changes often happen without warning.

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.

Frontier Partner Projects and Frontier group projects are run in partnership with in-country NGOs, small community based organisations, local research institutes, academic organisations and conservation agencies. Project descriptions and information are supplied directly by our partners or field staff and are accurate at time of publishing.

We aim to keep information up to date and accurate, however, the nature of our projects and in particular the fact that they are constantly evolving and developing in response to changing needs means that project activities, travel schedules, tour itineraries and daily timetables can change overnight and without notice.
