If you plan to travel in Australia for an extended period or even plan on moving there for a working holiday, getting yourself organised when you arrived can be daunting! Especially if you don't already have some friends or family to help soften the landing. This package is an excellent way for you to arrive smoothly, meet some new people and organise yourself ready for work or travel with things like a bank account and assistance with finding a job already done for you!

Australia is a land of contrasts and dramatic scenery, from the endless desert plains to tropical rainforests. As one of the world's 12 "mega-diverse" countries, with high levels of endemism, it is a must for anyone with an interest in travel and conservation. Australia is the oldest, flattest, and lowest of Earth's landmasses. It is surrounded by the Indian and Pacific oceans, and boasts 34,218 km of coastline. The Great Barrier Reef, which extends for 2,000km, lies off the northeast coast. Being the world's 6th largest country, Australia encompasses a wide array of habitats, ranging from arid desert, to temperate forest, to savannah grassland, to tropical rainforest. 40% of the country is classified as semi-arid desert and covered with sand dunes, with the country's only fertile soils being found in the more temperate southeast and south-west corners.

Day 1: Welcome Briefing, Sydney City Tour & Welcome Dinner
Meet your guides and all your new buddies in the hostel lounge. We then take you to our office, introduce you to the crew and give you an overview of what's going to happen throughout the week as well as hand out your SIM card etc. Once that's been sorted, we head out for our walking tour of the city including Circular Quay, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Opera House and the Botanical Gardens. Later tonight, we meet again for our Welcome Dinner and drinks. (Dinner and 1 drink included).

Day 2: Information Session and Sydney Harbour Catamaran Cruise
We spend the morning talking about everything you need to know about your adventure in Australia including finding work, writing your CV, seasons and things to see & do. Later today, enjoy a trip on our awesome catamaran and see all the popular sights of Sydney including Darling Harbour, Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. Spend the day chilling, swimming and sunbaking! The tour includes a tasty BBQ lunch.

Day 3: Port Stephens Basecamp
We depart Sydney and travel by bus to Port Stephens. Basecamp is set within 6 acres of rainforest, just 5 minutes walk to the beach. On arrival, check out the beach and have a swim before we enjoy tasty pizzas for dinner. That night, grab a torch and come possum-spotting or take a moonlit stroll along One Mile Beach.

Day 4: Sandboarding & Bush Walk to Tomaree Head Lookout
After breakfast we jump in the 4WDs and head to the top of the sand dunes to try sandboarding! We return to Basecamp for lunch and then take a guided bush walk through Tomaree National Park. Enjoy stunning scenery and breathtaking views and the chance to see koalas in the treetops (all year round) and migrating whales (May - November). Tonight we have an Aussie BBQ and drinks around the campfire.

Day 5: Dolphin Cruise & Travel Back to Sydney
We take an amazing dolphin watching cruise and get up close to wild bottlenose dolphins. Relax on deck or ride in the boom net while dolphins swim underneath. Then we hit the beach for a swim before heading back to Sydney. Check back into WakeUp at around 7pm.

Day 6: Party Night
Time to explore Sydney's nightlife! Join our pub crawl (we have different themes every week) to some of Sydney's best backpacker bars. (Express entry and some free drinks included)

Day 7: Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach Walk
It's been a long week, so we're taking it easy today. Our guides pick you up at the hostel and we catch the bus to Coogee to start our stroll along the coast line to Bondi. See 5 stunning Sydney beaches, stop for lunch along the way and spend the afternoon chilling on Bondi Beach. Bus tickets need to be bought at own expense (about $7 return).

For fast, efficient and up-to-date visa advice please contact our recommended visa consultancy partner:

Depending on your destination country and your country of origin, you might require a visa. Please see the appropriate country consular website for details or contact our affiliate visa consultancy service. Please note that your visa will usually start on the date that you enter the destination country regardless of when it was issued. Please check with the relevant embassy or high commission. If you are purchasing your visa or paying entry/exit fees in-country you will probably need to pay in US Dollars. If you have any questions please consult the relevant embassy or high commission. Please check the visa information regularly, as changes often happen without warning.

You'll need to buy appropriate travel insurance covering your participation on the project. You won't be able to go without the right travel insurance so double check to avoid disappointment. Please make sure that you're covered for the whole duration of your trip – from the day you leave the UK to the day you return. It's also best to get your travel insurance at the same time as paying the deposit for your project. Depending on your policy, this will cover you for any unexpected cancellations.

Your insurance should include the following:

  • Medical cover, including medical emergencies and medical evacuations (up to USD$3,000,000 / GBP£2,000,000);
  • Personal liability (up to USD$1,500,000 / GBP£1,000,000);
  • Cancellation and curtailment of your trip (up to the value of your project contribution).

If you are going to be scuba diving you should get coverage for scuba diving up to 30m, including hyperbaric therapy treatment (unlimited). You should consider obtaining insurance to cover you for any additional activities which you plan to do during, before, or after your Frontier project. We recommend that you obtain cover for your baggage and personal effects.

Frontier Partner Projects and Frontier group projects are run in partnership with in-country NGOs, small community based organisations, local research institutes, academic organisations and conservation agencies. Project descriptions and information are supplied directly by our partners or field staff and are accurate at time of publishing.

We aim to keep information up to date and accurate, however, the nature of our projects and in particular the fact that they are constantly evolving and developing in response to changing needs means that project activities, travel schedules, tour itineraries and daily timetables can change overnight and without notice.
